Reiki

Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that helps restore balance in the body, mind, and Spirit. While its roots trace back over 2,500 years to ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings, the form most widely practiced today—Usui Reiki—was developed in early 20th-century Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui, and later introduced to the West.

Reiki works by channeling universal life force energy through the palms of a certified practitioner to support the body’s natural ability to heal. This energy flows through the aura (energy field), chakras (energy centers), and meridians (energy pathways), helping to clear blockages and restore energetic alignment. Reiki doesn’t “heal” the body directly—it heals the energy, so the body can return to its natural state of balance and well-being.

This non-invasive, deeply relaxing practice is often used as a complementary therapy alongside traditional medical treatments. It can help reduce stress, relieve symptoms, ease emotional tension, and support healing on all levels—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Reiki can be practiced both in person and at a distance, as the energy it works with transcends space and time.

Increasingly recognized in clinical settings—including hospitals, hospices, and wellness centers—Reiki is trusted by many as a powerful, restorative tool on the path to whole-person healing.

preparing for your session

  • If you’re receiving a virtual (distance) Reiki session, find a quiet, comfortable space where you can relax without distractions for the duration of your session.

    To support the healing process, we recommend avoiding alcohol, recreational cannabis, caffeine, or any non-prescribed substances for at least 3 hours before and 24 hours after your session. Your body and energy field may be especially sensitive, and giving yourself this space can help you integrate the benefits more fully.

  • During your Reiki session, your only job is to relax and remain open to receiving the energy. Some people experience physical sensations such as warmth, tingling, pulsing, or a sense of gentle movement—while others may not feel anything at all. Both are perfectly normal. Reiki works whether or not it is consciously perceived.

    You may also experience visual impressions or intuitive insights—sometimes known as the activation of your Clairs (clairvoyance, clairsentience, etc.). It’s not uncommon to see images, colors, or enter a dreamlike or meditative state. Many people even fall asleep, which is also welcomed—the energy continues to flow and support healing regardless.

  • After your session, be sure to drink plenty of water to help your body process and release any stagnant energy that may have shifted. Hydration supports your system in integrating the effects of the session gently and effectively.

    It’s also common to experience an emotional release afterward. Reiki can bring stored emotions or unresolved energy to the surface—things the body has been quietly holding onto. You might feel lighter, more peaceful, or unexpectedly emotional—and all of that is part of the process.

    Give yourself time to rest, reflect, and be gentle with yourself. Notice what comes up, and try to make space for it without judgment. Your healing may continue to unfold in the hours or days that follow.
